AU WORKSHOP & Pre-Game CR Meme

Hello! Welcome to the Alternate University AU backstory workshop! Each character that is brought into the game will have a full understanding of the university (so far as one might have when just striking out on their educational adventure, anyway) and a rough idea of what to expect, as they're all from the same universe now, albeit strange and varying parts of it. (For more info, check out the FAQs).

The game hasn't quite started yet, but the semester is already in full swing! Your character might already have some CR that needs to be handwaved- a roommate, a teammate, etc... and this is where you can hammer that out. Is your character originally from the same canon as someone else's character? Use this meme to coordinate what sort of shared experiences/knowledge they might have about their 'hometown', or if they'll even know each other at all in this AU! (example: Riku and Sora in game might not know each other personally yet, but WOW do they remind each other of someone from back home!)

Here's your assignment:
1. Post a comment with your character's name and original fandom in the subject line.

2. Tell us who your character is, what they've been up to and want to get involved in: Have they been here since day one, or are they a brand new transfer student? what's their major? Do they play a sport? Thinking about starting any clubs, or are they TooCool™ for that? Do they have roommates, or are looking for some (to replace those pesky NPCs)? Is your character a teacher or staff member that might have a reputation that precedes them? Hash it all out here, and see if it sparks something in another player/character.

3. Take a good long scroll through the other comments and see who all is here and what sort of connections can be made! Keep in mind, this is just the backstory and the 'semester so far'. There will be PLENTY of CR building opportunities throughout the game itself!

Due to the flexibility of AU's premise, I'm going to be taking Ed more directly from canon than originally intended. If you're completely canon blind and want a more specific rundown of Ed in general, hit me up, I'm good with explaining anything or answering questions.

For the most part, everything will follow canon for the 2003 series + movie, however, there will be a few changes in order to better fit the setting:
- Alternate University exists somewhere beyond the Gate.
- Post-COS, Noah and the Elrics part ways and during their travels, when AU is discovered.
- Having a history of following unlikely rumors, the Elrics look into the university that seems to be just left of ordinary thinking it might help.
- Best case, they might find an alternate method to get home. Worst case, it gets them out of 1920's Germany and into research and a steady income. (I'm assuming at this point they managed to stop the bomb from getting in the wrong hands, however, the creation of the bomb in the 40's was still made possible by researching the one originally hunted down by the Elrics)
- Ed's brother is around somewhere, and may or may not be involved in the school. They probably live together off-campus but I'm leaving this vague in case anyone might want to app an Alphonse in later.

As for as what Ed's up to at the school:
- He'll be working there, I just haven't decided quite what he's doing yet
(I usually default to something like library but that seems to be more than covered.)
- As Ed spends a lot of time doing research and studying, sitting in on other lectures and taking courses, it might be hard to tell whether he's staff, a student, or two separate people entirely who just happen to look alike.
- He'll be 18/19 so feel free to have your character assume he's way too young to be anything but a student.
- He'll mostly spend his free time outside or at the library, expect to find him with his nose in a book a lot.
- He can also be seen working out and is probably involved in more active clubs, although he wouldn't run or coach anything himself he might assist somewhere like a martial arts club
- Not swimming though, he can't swim
- He's always dressed the same, down to the white gloves. (if people want any previous history with him and to be aware of the automail, let me know!)

Some additional information that might pertain to clubs, hobbies, or courses he's involved in:
- martial arts, the most obvious one
- basic survival skills, shelter creation, making fires, hunting and prepping food in the wild etc. Could be useful if there's a survival or camping type club
- fighting, Ed uses blades and prefers to wield a spear but he'll just transmute his arm in a pinch. If self-defense learning is a thing he could be involved there
- code creating and breaking, he could probably get comfortable with at least basic HTML pretty easily with practice.
- multilingual and mastered fluency in a whole language in less than two years, he'll learn languages fast. Probably not the best at teaching them but if you need someone to practice with and it's one he knows, he could help with the studying
- rocket scientist
- some basic knowledge in biology and medical science
- some sort of forensic science? This one makes the least sense and I tend to avoid getting into it in games for that reason, but it's a thing that comes up in canon
- cards, he's shown in canon to cheat, which may or may not come up depending on how petty he's feeling

- I'll probably be adding in CRAU information from a previous game to flesh out the two years that canon doesn't explore between the series and movie but I'm going to be playing him as having already been established at the university when the game opens.

As I'm chronically forgetting things, expect me to add more or elaborate as needed.
